Honestly, I would have thought that was one of the least filmable of Stephenson's books.
On the other hand, I suppose it offers lots of opportunities for spectacular visuals. And it's fairly short.
I thought they did a fantastic job 'un-imagining' Dune.
Why can't it be both?

I saw part of the Sci-Fi channel production, and was approximately as bored by it as I was by the book. So maybe it was well done?
That's why I liked it, actually.
Although I do understand Neal's position - the book is, well, very Stephenson-ish. Which means it highlights both his strong points and his weak ones.
It could make a tremendously amusing film, if you got a decent scriptwriter to tighten up the material - not a lot of really flashy effects needed, and plenty of action to move the plot along.
That's why I like it so much too I think, it's just strange enough to be probable...
You've got a great array of characters, no one 'star' to focus the picture on.
And just imagine the stereo battles in full THX certified splendor...
While charming, and featuring Jeremy Piven, PCU lacks the pervasively neurotic feel of Stephenson.
S'a good flick, though. I haven't seen that in... god, years.
