The latest snazzy T-shirt is offered in "Red state" and "Blue state" designs. This reminded me of some very interesting webpages which i recently found. Election result maps [umich.edu] can be drawn to represent data in various ways, and i like to see the perspectives showing population proportions as opposed to land areas.

Images of the social and economic world [umich.edu] can be depicted in ways which reveal interesting relationships between nations and regions.

The Worldmapper [worldmapper.org] website has hundreds of these educational cartograms.
