WoP for the many or the few
posted Thursday, April 13, 2006 - 12:22 PM (#33732)

I essentially promised [goats.com] to do this quite some time ago, but it slipped my mind. Recently, Llamarama posted a reminder [goats.com].
Of course, Jon will do whatever the hell he feels like doing, but it might briefly amuse us to know what consensus, if any, there is.

Smoked meat is always an option, but not in this poll.

POLL: Now that no one else can aspire to Premium membership, should Worlds of Peril be accessible to nonPremies?

54% (6) Sure, why not? Let's share the love.

45% (5) No, let's keep it to ourselves as a reminder of the good old days.
11 people have voted in this poll. (This poll is not active.)

I'm going to go smoke some meat now just for fun. We must really admonish Mkinyon for this egregious lapse.

Color me admonished, then. For option 1, I almost wrote "Share the love and the chorizo", but decided that this would unfairly bias the poll. Not that my sympathies weren't already clear anyway.

E.g., dry curing, stitch pumping, artery injection, or needle injection.

Dr. Internet [tamu.edu] can cure everything.

I'm so confused... how can there be a meatless pol to smoke? And keep your needles away from my pumping!

As for the vote, i think if WoP were free to the public then the only remaining perk of premium membership apparently would be this very forum. As much as i adore all of you, i was hoping for some other way to feel all special. Do we still get merchandise discounts? The last three T-shirts i ordered appeared to be "standard" price, but maybe i don't even know what the standards are around here any more. We aren't supposed to tease new Scott Baios too fiercely, we are on the verge of our final SPEYing... a lot has changed during these past three years.

This is all fine with me. I'm just wondering if it will even be worth making any distinction between "premium" versus "non-premium" any longer.

I'm not feeling like finding the old posts, but my impression is that Jon's plan was indeed to eliminate the distinction between premium and non-premium membership. Didn't he say that since he wasn't doing Sunday strips, he didn't feel okay having a premium membership structure? Or am I making that up?

Switch seats with the white rabbit (Score: 2)
posted Thursday, April 13, 2006 - 09:45 PM (#33759)
In Response to Llamarama (#33758):

Yeah, that was basically the gist of it, or so i gathered. I guess i just really enjoyed the whole idea of "here is some stuff, such as super-exclusive T-shirts that nobody in the world will have unless they are Premium Goats People" every year. And i liked having a monthly color strip way back when, but that became less relevant when the weeday strips went to all-color, and gradually became fantastic works of art on a regular basis. The "Sunday Comics" were no longer distinguishable from the awesome drawings of Monday thru Thursday. So now that we don't have anything except this forum to set ourselves apart from the rest of the Goats audience, i suppose i should say "hip hip hooray for equality."

At least this all seems to indicate that Jon has found the setup which works best for him in terms of both the artistic and the business side of things. So i'm happy about that, and i don't mean to sound like i have any complaints in any of my little comments here, i'm just blabbing (as usual).

I'm fairly certain the premium discounts are still in place.

New WoP will be coming soon, once I get my head on straight. I will make it available in some form to the masses (probably as extras in a book) once it is done, but not before then.

Okay, that's really cool, thanks for continuing that benefit. My memory is probably fuzzy, but i thought the Store pages used to display the merchandise with a "regular price" in a StrikeThrough font, with a "special premium discount price" next to it. Now the items in the store only list one price... maybe i'm totally imagining the old appearance? Goodness, my brain feels unreliable today.

Okay, discount is fixed. Seems we had commented it out when we stopped accepting subscriptions. I don't remember doing it, but it seems like it was a bad decision regardless. You should be seeing discounts on most products now, let me know if you're not.

It's not really a problem with discounts not showing up, but if I just click on the store link, this pops up:

Goats has encountered an unexpected error.

We've been notified and will look into it.
as soon as we get back from the pub, that is...

It says you were notified, but I have learned not to trust anything that says anyone was notified. I blame the internet.
