Worlds of Peril connection?
posted Friday, December 14, 2007 - 10:09 PM (#39668)

Someone brought up WOP already in the News [goats.com] forum, but here's a take.

Jon and Toshi got it on. Maybe Jebediah, who's Middle Pangaean, is their kid.

There's a Phillip clone, being raised on Topeka Prime. Maybe it's Prak.

Fineas is still Fineas, of course. And the Hairy Despot certainly looks like Toothgnip.

Is Din-tah Diablo, a clone, or a descendant? Hard to say.

Discuss. Support your arguments with links to or citations of the strips. All posts will checked at Turnitin [turnitin.com].

Y'know, I was reading in the archives earlier today, when I realized that the clone's name IS none other than...Prak [goats.com]. So you certainly could be on to something there.

As for Jebediah being Pangaean, though, I'm not so sure. This [goats.com] strip refers to TV and video games, which at least didn't seem to be common in Middle Pangaea when we saw Toshi and Jon there.

We also don't know how a Jerrell-like character [goats.com] fits into the WoP scene. But maybe he's purely coincidental.

And WHAT is that Turnitin thing? Is it a search engine for profs to check their students' papers for plagiarism? Do you use it? How often do you find copying?

Nice catch. I didn't notice it when reading the Goats strip because I had forgotten the WOP character's name. I had to look it up.

In re Middle Pangaea and its civilization, they even seem to have some familiarity with individually wrapped slices of American cheese [goats.com].

Yes, Turnitin is a plagiarism checking service. Many colleges and universities subscribe. I actually don't know if mine does or not. I wouldn't use it anyway; I rarely assign papers.

Keep in mind that anything a character says is subject to their cultural bias and may be riddled with errors and propaganda.

Also, I am not so good with continuity sometimes, it is hard to hold 2,000+ strips in your head simultaneously. But more likely it is character error that is the cause of any contradictions you see in plot.

And, of course, master authors use these 'character errors' to help the players maintain an aura of humanity throughout their otherworldly and usually unerring heroism.
